Celebrated Vasilica together, had fun, made new friends, welcomed newcomers and shared the experience of staying and living in North Macedonia. Basil (or Vasilica in Macedonian Language), is the first day of the New Year according to the old Julian Calendar, which is still the official calendar of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Archdiocese of Ohrid. Vasilica, also popularly known as the Old New Year, is widely celebrated by Macedonians in spite of having had celebrated the official New Year 13 days before, on January 1st.
The bread was splitted among the ladies, bringing good luck and prosperous years to one who finds the coin in the piece of the bread. The lucky one was Marina Arsovska. Happy Old New Year.
